Project Title : Impact of Fake News on recent European Politics

Co-funded by : Jean Monnet, Erasmus+ Program of European Union.

About us:

The recent events in the EU with the Brexit movement and the immediate future events with the French, Dutch and German elections will be a key moment for the future of the supranational body. During the Brexit campaigns, there were several misleading, half-truth information, that were used by politicians and influencer's to pull the opinion towards one side or the other.
This can be seen again in the campaign for the French Presidential elections, the Dutch and German general Elections. The use of new medias (Social Media, Video Platforms Blog, Online Radio, Forums, etc) are extensively used by political parties and their supporters, influencer's and the citizens, to either promote their messages or counter another message. We are in an era where there is a lot of information creation and instantly shared, unfortunately this immediacy has impacted the quality . Traditional medias, new medias and the general public have been hit by bogus reports and false/inaccurate information which have been published involuntarily and voluntarily.
Some organisations have been trying to contain and help the public by debunking those false/inaccurate reports. Our Modules will give the students an explanation of how the EU works, the history of information in the EU, the policies regulating information in the EU, an analysis of the recent political events in the EU via the media and the impact on the shifting of opinion. The course will help student develop and use tools to help them debunk information and source verifying. As part of our institution mission, we will host a cycle of conference on source identifying, fact checking, information crosschecking that will be open to the wider public in anticipation of the 2019 Indian General Elections.
