It is an initiative under the aegis of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan by the Ministry of Education to provide psychological support to students and other stakeholders for their mental and emotional well-being.

Online query system is available on the Manodarpan website for seeking expert advice. You can go through live sessions, webinars, and other online interactions that are regularly held to address mental health concerns. These sessions may be broadcast on the PM e-Vidya channels or NCERT's YouTube channel.

The institution has appointed a regular psychological counselor to address the needs of the students and the staff. The counseling cell of the institute helps students to understand themselves and to introspect the issues that trouble them and guides them to resolve their problems. The counselor supports students by listening and responding in a confidential, non-judgmental and timely way. The goal of counseling is to facilitate positive behavioral change, enhance students' ability to manage stress and adapt to change, establish and maintain relationships and to cope effectively with the problems they face.
Institutional Support:
Dr. Bhumika Agrawal, Associate Professor in the department of Humanities is the In-charge of Psychological Counseling cell. She efficiently maintains the required data and manages the Psychological Counseling Cell. She circulates notices regarding counseling sessions and events organized under the cell. She actively motivates students, staff, class teachers, and teacher guardians to refer students who may need the counselor's support. She also ensures that the counselor maintains strict confidentiality of the students who seek help. Every year, during the induction program, the cell administers a pledge to newly admitted students, affirming their commitment not to resort to self-harm or suicide.
Place of Counseling Cell: The counselor remains available on all working days in the institute from 11am to 5pm in Central Library, first floor.

Objectives of the Cell :
1. To support the holistic development of students- fostering their intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
2. To assist students during periods of turmoil and confusion by providing emotional support and guidance.
3. To identify and support students in need of special help through timely intervention and counseling.
4. To ensure the constructive use of time outside the classroom for personal and academic enrichment.
5. To help in addressing issues arising from the increasing student population and related academic or behavioral challenges.
6. To develop readiness for choices and changes so students can effectively face new challenges in life.
7. To motivate students towards self-employment and self-reliance, encouraging confidence and independence.
8. To help freshers establish a proper sense of identity and belonging as they transition into college life.
Steps of Counselling:
1. Create a comfortable space where the student feels respected, heard, and understood.
2. Encourage them to express their thoughts and feelings openly.
3. Understand the student's agenda by paying close attention to both verbal and non-verbal cues.
4. Ensure understanding and show empathy through effective communication techniques.
5. Explore the emotional aspects behind the issues discussed.
6. Reframe difficulties into achievable objectives.
7. Discuss alternative strategies and potential courses of action.
8. Guide them in designing a step-by-step plan toward their goals.
9. Agree on actions to be taken or the next steps in the process.
10. Review key points, ensure mutual understanding, and evaluate progress made.
11. Invite the student's reflections on the session to strengthen engagement and accountability.
12. Assure the students that everything shared during counseling sessions will remain confidential.
The Counselling Process Does Not Include :
While counseling provides emotional support and guidance, it is important to understand what the process does not involve. The counselor’s role is to facilitate self-understanding and decision-making, not to impose personal opinions or influence choices.
1. The counselor guides the student toward their own solutions rather than prescribing actions.
2. The counselor maintains an open, accepting attitude without criticism or bias.
3. The counselor refrains from projecting or promoting their own beliefs, morals, or viewpoints.
4. The goal is to help the student make choices that align with their own values and circumstances, not to mirror the counselor’s life.
4. A professional boundary is maintained to ensure objectivity and uphold the integrity of the counseling relationship.
