Overview of The Department

The Department of Civil Engineering, one of the oldest departments of the institute, offers a four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programme in Civil Engineering with an approved intake of 120 students. The department is committed to academic excellence, outcome-based education, research, and professional ethics, in alignment with the vision and mission of the institute.


The department has a well-qualified and experienced faculty strength of 24 members covering all major domains of Civil Engineering, namely Structural Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering. Among them, 05 faculty members possess doctoral degrees, while 08 faculty members are actively pursuing Ph.D. research. Faculty members regularly publish research papers in reputed national and international journals and conferences and contribute to academic and professional development activities. They are invited as resource persons for workshops, training programmes, and seminars and have received recognitions such as best paper awards, fellowships, and sponsored academic engagements


The department is supported by well-equipped laboratories including Structural Analysis, Concrete Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering laboratories, ensuring effective practical training and experiential learning. A dedicated computer laboratory with licensed civil engineering software facilitates design, analysis, and simulation, strengthening students’ technical competencies.


To enhance employability and industry readiness, the department emphasizes industry interaction, internships, expert lectures, workshops, and seminars. Regular field visits to construction sites, water treatment plants, and infrastructure projects are organized to bridge the gap between theory and practice.


Through a robust curriculum, qualified faculty, modern infrastructure, and continuous improvement practices, the Department of Civil Engineering aims to produce competent graduates with strong technical skills, research aptitude, ethical values, and lifelong learning capabilities, ready to meet the challenges of sustainable infrastructure development.
